Durango

Durango has a great walk/bike path that goes through the town and along the animus river.

Birthday train ride.

We had a great lunch at Mad Mama's in Silverton.

It's my birthday and we will ride the narrow-gauge train from Durango to Silverton and back again. On the train at 7:45AM and back at 5:00PM.

Durango in the daylight.

So got up and the KOA folks gave me a real sight. I had my pick since a lot of folks left early this morning. Derek is feeling better and the fever is gone. Our sight is on a small irrigation canal. The sound of water flowing by is calming. We stayed at the KOA that day, playing 17 holes of golf and watching the movie, Cars at the pavillion. About golf, if you don't play the 9th hole on the first round, the ball doesn't go into the lock-box, thus 17 holes.

Lots of nothing

Thus, no pictures. A couple of hundred miles to El Paso then on west to hit I25 north through Albuquerque then on to Durango CO. Pulled into the KOA at 9:30PM and the had no long spaces so we parked in the group camping area without power or water. It was not a problem since it was a cool night and threatening rain. Derek has been sleeping most of the day and eating ice when not. I will however have to disconnect the Jeep in the morning since I can not back out of the space.

Drive Straight

The roads are so straight out here we tried to use cruise-control and cat-drive but after hitting the shoulder several times we decided to do it our self.

Drive drive drive

On Tuesday morning Derek was not feeling well and had a fever. He was quiet. That's one symptom of being sick for Derek. If he is quiet, you know he is sick. We walked by the pool, kicked our feet in the water then got on the road thinking it better to drive all day while he slept.

First night out - Aug 13

We had hoped to make it to El Paso before stopping for the night but it was dark and we still had 200 miles to go so we diverted to Balmorhea State Park. The evening was cool and the stars bright. I never noticed that the Milky Way curved slightly in the middle. We went out to see the meteor shower but the sky was so bright with stars we didn't see any. Coyotes were singing that night and seemed very close.
